Research
Fellow
Beyond Pesticides
is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual for a Research
Fellowship to conduct literature review-style research contributing
to both online and print projects. Applicants should be comfortable
digesting scientific literature for the general public and have
an interest in learning about the world of toxics, a commitment
to social justice, and a desire to create positive change by empowering
the public with information on the organization, the environmental
and health issues associated with pesticide exposure, and alternative
pest management strategies. This is a 6-month position with the
option to renew.
Beyond Pesticides
is a national non-profit research and action organization at the
forefront of the grassroots environmental health movement with a
focus on the hazards of pesticides to harm human health, wildlife
and our environment. Through scientific research, campaigns, information
dissemination, and close partnerships and coalitions, the organization
advocates for the protection of basic human rights, environmental
protection, pesticide policy reform, and the replacement of toxic
pesticides in all areas of use with organic, non-toxic and other

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree; a scientific background
is preferred. Candidates must be comfortable with scientific literature
and be able to present technical information for a lay audience.
A willingness to take initiative, interest in research, and a passion
for environmental/public health issues is required. Training will
be provided.
Salary/Benefits:
High-20’s and up (annual) based on experience, full health
benefits, 1 vacation day per month plus federal holidays.

Interns
Beyond Pesticides
is a national non-profit membership organization, founded in 1981,
dedicated to educating the public about the toxic hazards of pesticides
and safer alternatives. The organization advocates for strong policy
to protect public health and the environment. Beyond Pesticides/NCAMP’s
programs are focused on school pesticide use, lawn care, insect-borne
diseases, organic agriculture, documenting pesticide poisoning incidents,
and watchdogging federal, state and local governments.
Responsibilities
may include:
- Producing
materials, including factsheets, articles, report contributions,
and online materials.
- Updating
and developing webpages at www.beyondpesticides.org.
- Assisting
in fielding phone calls and emails from the public, researching
and answering information requests.
- Assist the
executive director and program staff with outreach, research and
administrative tasks on an as-needed basis.
Interns are
given tasks that match their interests, skills and background with
Beyond Pesticides’ goals. In addition to working on specific
projects, interns will gain insight into the importance of grassroots
action, the complexities of environmental issues, and how non-profits
function. Internships are based on a small stipend and vary in length
from 3 months to 1 year.
